What are Digital Certificates?

A digital certificate is an attachment tagged to an electronic message for security purposes. It allows the sender of a message to be verified by the recipient, that the sender is actually the person he or she claims to be. In addition, it allows the recipient to reply to the message in a ’secure’ way, so that only the sender of the original message and nobody else receives it.

FTPS is a protocol for transferring files using SSL to secure the commands and data that are being transferred between the client and the server. Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) and its successor Transport Layer Security (TLS), are cryptographic protocols that provide secure communications on the Internet for such things as web browsing, e-mail, FTP and other data transfers.
